Marcus Chown is the cosmology consultant for the New Scientist, a weekly magazine reporting the latest developments in all areas of science.
Marcus graduated from the University of London in 1980 with a first-class degree in physics. Four years later he gained a Master of Science in astrophysics from the California Institute of Technology. He has lectured in Madagascar, been a freelance writer, and a broadcaster for the BBC.
Writing
He has written books on astronomy and physics which are primarily aimed at the popular market, including Quantum Theory Cannot Hurt You, for which he was praised for “expressing opaque concepts with a unique clarity”.
Champion of Popular Science
First foray into science writing for children was “Stars and Planets” and has more recently written the wonderful “Felicity Frobisher and the Three-headed Aldebaran Dust Devil”.
